THE PROJECT IN A FEW WORDS?

Youtube link:

Opus project aims to identify people (like NEETS) who live in popular neighborhoods and/or rural revitalization areas by using hip-hop culture (music, rap, sound, image, dance, basketball, etc.). The purpuse ?  To capture their attention, exchange and mobilize them, with the aim of support them gradually towards employment, by offering them training or business creation solutions whatever the sector activity.

DURATION?

Since 2019, currently active until 2024

CONTEXT OF THE PROJECT WITH THE COVID PERIOD?

It started before COVID. As the health context of 2020 makes it impossible to maintain the timing of the project as planned, other actions have been developed in parallel, with the aim:

• To maintain the link around the OPUS dynamic

• To continue to offer concrete support actions with professionals (writing, MAO, etc.) to mobilize, both at Rocher de Palmer and outside (in appropriate sanitary conditions).

So, we proposed a rap challenge on the Instagram Opus page, two rap workshop in partnership with the social center of Cenon (with a small group).

WHO ARE THE PARTNERS?

Opus is developed in 3 cities in south west of France : Cenon – Bordeaux Metropole, Mont-de-Marsan and Pau. The project is managed by 3 concert place : Le Rocher de Palmer (Cenon), Le Café Music (Mont-de-Marsan) and Ampli (Pau – Billère). In each city, Many different actors are involved : artists, many social actors in the field in the popular neighborhoods of the city (prevention centers, neighborhood associations, social centers, local missions, etc.), Professional integration, training, activity structuring …

Opus have a referent artist : DJ VEX (a Professional artist of urban music and culture).

WHAT ORGANIZATION? WHAT ARE THE STEPS OF THE PROJECT?

The actions are organized in 5 stages in each territory:

#1 – Identification / mediation: open mic, hip-hop actions, sport, urban cultures

#2 – Mobilization: rap concert i 1st local part & 2-day workshop: sound & video

#3 - Initiation: digital workshop 1 week (sound - video - web - graphics) & rap workshop 1 week

#4 - Orientation with a professional and inclusion partner

#5- Sustainability & support (professional support, digital training, cultural and creative incubator

WHAT WORKED WELL IN THE PROJECT?

The first year (2019) was necessary and important to lay the foundations of the project with the partners present in the neighborhoods (social centers, prevention centers, professional integration structures, social landlords, etc.). This facilitated and streamlined the organization of actions in 2020, which thus had more visibility directly in the districts. Some actions such as the open-mics in Cenon have been co-organized with the Cenon prevention center and an association that runs one of the districts. This generated the involvement of young people from different neighborhoods and the presence of an audience that was sometimes family. This joint organization with these structures which act on a daily basis in the neighborhoods is essential for making the link with the young people, choosing the right places and getting involved in the rest of the project (insertion and follow-up).

Being in the neighborhood and relying more largely on urban cultures: in addition to the involvement of partners, actions must be made more participatory (help with organization, choice of artists, etc.) and accentuate actions in the neighborhood by broadening the field of scouting actions for urban cultures (street-art, street sports, hip-hop dance, etc.). In Mont-de-Marsan, the open-mics were for example organized at the same time as the initiation to certain sports, in particular boxing, which gave more visibility to the open-mics and indirectly on the contacts and links with the participants. .e.s. At Bordeaux it was a mix with the basketball, hip-hop music, inclusion village, exhibition of photos…

Supporting individual paths : Opus shows all its interest through the progressive unfolding of the actions which bind to each other and which make it possible to "take the time", facilitating the link and thus to better know the people to accompany them in an individual way in their professional career, in close collaboration and involvement with integration and vocational training structures.

WHAT WORKED LESS WELL IN THE PROJECT?

What is not easy in the project is that the partners who are many and different. They do not always work at the same pace. It is important that everyone adapts to others.
